The 140th Canton Fair Opens Tomorrow: Guangzhou Hotels Enter a Three-Week International Hospitality Season

On October 15, the 140th China Import and Export Fair, better known as the Canton Fair, will officially open in Guangzhou.

This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the Canton Fair.

Running through November 4 in three phases, the exhibition will cover approximately 1.55 million square meters and bring together around 32,000 participating companies.

More than 210,000 overseas buyers from 196 countries and regions had reportedly completed pre-registration before the event.

For Guangzhou, however, the Canton Fair has never been only an exhibition inside a convention center.

When buyers, exhibitors and business travelers from around the world arrive in the city, an entire service network enters one of its busiest periods of the year.

Airports.

Metro systems.

Taxis.

Restaurants.

Retail.

And one particularly important sector:

hotels.

From October 15 to November 4, Guangzhou hotels will face a three-week international business hospitality season.

Hotels Are Becoming More Than Places to Sleep

One interesting feature of this year’s Canton Fair is that some event services have been extended directly into hotels.

To improve registration efficiency for overseas buyers, service and badge-registration points have been arranged at airports, railway stations, exhibition venues and selected hotels.

Transportation connections between the Canton Fair Complex and major surrounding hotels are also being strengthened during the exhibition period.

This reflects a broader change in the role of hotels during major international events.

In the past:

hotels mainly provided accommodation.

Today:

hotels are increasingly becoming part of the wider exhibition service network.

An international buyer may complete registration at the hotel, discuss business in the lobby, check transport information, handle emails in the room and travel to the exhibition hall the next morning.

For many visitors, apart from the Canton Fair Complex itself, the hotel may be the place where they spend the most time during their stay in Guangzhou.

The hotel experience therefore becomes part of the city’s international hospitality experience.

A Three-Week Trade Fair Tests Hotels Differently from a Normal Holiday

Business travelers attending an international trade fair have different needs from leisure tourists.

A tourist may spend the day sightseeing and return to the hotel in the evening.

A Canton Fair buyer, however, may have a schedule that looks more like this:

leave the hotel early in the morning;

walk through exhibition halls for hours;

meet suppliers and discuss orders throughout the day;

return to the hotel in the evening;

answer emails and review product information;

and then do it all again the next morning.

Many buyers also stay for more than one night.

Some attend multiple phases of the fair, visit suppliers around the Pearl River Delta or extend their business trip after the exhibition.

For business hotels, one of the most important words during this period is therefore:

consistency.

A comfortable first night is not enough.

The guestroom needs to remain comfortable on the third, fifth or even later night of the stay.

The Longer Business Guests Stay, the More Important the Bed Becomes

International business hotels usually pay close attention to:

high-speed internet, multilingual services, workspaces, transportation and breakfast schedules.

All of these matter.

But after a full day of walking, meetings and negotiations, the guest often returns to the hotel with one very simple need:

a good night’s sleep.

At that moment, small details become much more noticeable.

Does the pillow provide enough support?

Is the duvet too heavy or too warm?

Do the sheets feel comfortable against the skin?

Does the pillow work well with the mattress?

Does the bed still feel clean, balanced and relaxing after several consecutive nights?

For buyers attending several days of exhibitions, sleep quality can directly affect how they feel and perform the following day.

That means, in an exhibition hotel:

bedding is not simply a guestroom supply — it is part of the business travel experience.

International Guests Make Bedding Adaptability More Important

The Canton Fair attracts buyers from countries and regions around the world.

Naturally, sleep preferences differ.

Some guests prefer:

a lower pillow.

Others prefer:

a fuller pillow with stronger support.

Some prefer a duvet that feels:

light and breathable.

Others enjoy:

more loft and a stronger sense of coverage.

A hotel cannot redesign the room for every individual guest.

However, thoughtful bedding configuration can still accommodate a wider range of preferences.

For example, a bed can be equipped with pillows of different heights or firmness levels.

Duvets can be selected according to Guangzhou’s climate and the room’s air-conditioning environment.

Sheets, duvet covers and other next-to-skin textiles can also be selected to maintain a consistently comfortable feel.

These are relatively simple choices.

But for internationally oriented business hotels, they reflect a more mature approach to guestroom design:

instead of asking every guest to adapt to the same bed, the bed should adapt to as many guests as reasonably possible.

A 21-Day Exhibition Means Continuous Guestroom Operations

The 140th Canton Fair will be held in three phases:

Phase 1: October 15–19

Phase 2: October 23–27

Phase 3: October 31–November 4

From the arrival of the first international buyers to the end of the final phase, Guangzhou hotels will therefore experience an exhibition cycle lasting approximately three weeks.

This is very different from a short weekend travel peak.

Guestrooms must turn over continuously.

Business travelers arrive and depart throughout the period.

Different groups of buyers enter the city for different exhibition phases.

Under these conditions, one capability becomes especially important:

delivering the same guestroom experience repeatedly and consistently.

Bedding should not vary noticeably between rooms of the same category.

Long-stay guests should not experience significant differences in comfort during their stay.

Replacement and replenishment products should also remain as consistent as possible with existing room standards.

For exhibition hotels, this is where standardization becomes particularly valuable.

Home Textiles Are Also Part of Phase 3 of the Canton Fair

For the textile industry, the event has another direct connection.

The third phase of the 140th Canton Fair, held from October 31 to November 4, includes categories such as:

textile raw materials and fabrics, home textiles, bathroom products and related consumer goods.

This means the Canton Fair does more than bring international business travelers into Guangzhou hotels.

It is also an important platform where global buyers can observe the capabilities of China’s textile, home textile and related manufacturing supply chains.

From:

bed sheets,

duvet covers,

pillowcases,

towels,

pillows,

and duvets inside a hotel room,

to home textile products displayed inside the exhibition hall,

all of these products are connected by a broader value chain:

design → manufacturing → quality control → supply → end-user experience

For Guangzhou and the wider Pearl River Delta hospitality supply industry, this makes the Canton Fair a particularly important period.

The Canton Fair Tests More Than the Exhibition Hall

The 140th Canton Fair is introducing a range of new service and technology measures designed to improve efficiency for participating businesses and international buyers.

Behind these improvements is a simple objective:

allow visitors to spend more of their time and energy on business itself.

The same principle applies to hotels.

A good exhibition hotel does not necessarily need guests to notice every detail of its service.

In many cases, the best experience is simply:

check-in is smooth;

transportation is convenient;

the room is quiet;

the bed is comfortable;

and the guest wakes up ready for another full day.

Many of these details may never be specifically mentioned.

Yet together, they shape the quality of an international business trip.

Guangzhou Dige Textile: From Guangzhou to the International Hospitality Market

Guangzhou Dige Textile Co., Ltd. specializes in hospitality textile products for hotels and accommodation projects, including bed sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, towels, pillows, duvets and other guestroom textile products.

As a hospitality textile company based in Guangzhou, every Canton Fair reminds us that Guangzhou is not only a major manufacturing and trading center.

It is also an international exhibition city that welcomes business travelers from around the world.

And international hotel guestrooms require more than visually attractive products.

Once bedding enters a real hotel environment, it must serve:

different guest profiles,

different sleep preferences,

multi-night stays,

and consistently high expectations for guestroom presentation.

We therefore believe that the future of hotel bedding should consider not only technical specifications, but also:

real sleep comfort, adaptability to different guests and consistent guestroom performance.

On October 15, the 140th Canton Fair will open its doors.

Over the following three weeks, international buyers will come to Guangzhou to discover products, suppliers and new business opportunities.

At the same time, every hotel room they stay in — and every bed they sleep in — will become another window through which they experience the city.

The exhibition hall showcases Guangzhou’s trading strength. The hotel guestroom reflects the city’s hospitality.
